Arriving at Auckland airport E-mail

Transport:

  • Auckland airport lies to the south, 20 km distance to the city centre.

  • The domestic terminal can be reached via a shuttle bus or a 10 minute walk.
  • The Airbus to the city takes about 40-50 mins. Plan ahead for late arrivals (www.airbus.co.nz).
  • For transport through the city expect delays during rush hour.
  • There are also door to door shuttle buses to the city, the driving times depend on the destination and other passengers.
  • Taxis are still the fastest point to point transport with immediate departure.
  • For your onwards journey to other regions around such as Northland, Bay of Plenty, Rotorua, Hamilton etc. you can take public bus transport from city centre, direct door to door shuttles (no taxis, no transfers, less waiting time) or domestic flights (see Getting around New Zealand).
  • You can pick up your rental car or motorhome at the airport, it is recommended to book ahead.

Facilities:

  • Free local phone calls before leaving the customs area, there is also a free accommodation phone in the arrivals hall.
  • Duty free shop before customs.
  • Free showers in the arrivals hall (towels for hire at the florist shop).
  • More than 100 retail outlets including pharmacy, telecommunications (mobile phone hire, SIM cards), banking & currency exchange, ATMs, etc. Restaurants and cafés are located on the upper floors.
  • Other facilities: wireless internet, post box, baggage storage, baby change and nursery, children’s playground.

Tourleader tips:

  • You can arrange free pickups from accommodation providers close to the airport, this is a good option if you arrive late at night (or leave early in the morning).
  • If you plan to return to Auckland at the end of your trip consider staying your first night outside of Auckland: for example Coromandel, Bay of Plenty, Northland or Waitomo.
  • Because of unclear signage from the airport to the centre or Northland it’s best to have a map ready.
  • If you get a private pickup tell your hosts to check the online arrivals information for any possible delays.
  • For your stay in Auckland consult our Auckland region tips.
